We are seeking a safety professional to be the subject matter expert on safety solutions in our manufacturing environment. This person will be a culture-leader, working hand-in-hand with management, other team members and outside resources to reduce and prevent environmental, health and safety hazards. Ideal candidates will have experience in manufacturing environments, be self-motivated to continuously learn and build knowledge, possesses strong administration and organizational skills. Qualifications Include: • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Health & Safety, Engineering or related technical (we will also accept five years’ related safety experience and training as equivalent in education) • Certified OSHA 10 or 30 hour • Two or more years’ experience in similar safety roles in a manufacturing environment, which should include: o Job hazard analysis and new equipment installation safety approvals o Accident investigations and corrective action implementations o OSHA inspection and audits o Experience with: ergonomics, machine guarding, lock out and other safety practices • Strong computer/technical skills including: Proficient in Microsoft office products, training software packages • Presentation and communication skills • Willingness and ability to travel as needed 10-20% of time. • US Person (meets ITAR/EAR requirements) Also Preferred: Certified as OSHA 30 hour Trainer and First Aid Trainer ________________________________________ Summary: Work under direction of Safety Manager for planning and implementation of safety programs to prevent unsafe working conditions on the plant floor. Works with technical resources as the subject matter expert on safety solutions and advises on controlling potential environmental, safety and health hazards. Works hand-in-hand with safety resources, agencies, and management to identify issues and improve adherence to safety rules. Assists in safety training regarding behavior change and compliance. Responsible for Commercial Division Sharps initiatives and improving safety culture and performance. Advises other company locations on equipment and process improvements. Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned. • Serves as safety Subject Matter Expert for equipment technology and best practices. • Responsible for safety planning and approval of new equipment install or relocation. Evaluates safety features and safety processes. • Leads safety compliance for Lock Out/ Tag Out Program, Machine Guarding and Ergonomics. • Assists in safety training programs regarding health & safety compliance through OJT safety training in critical programs. • Improves safety culture and performance. o Promote behaviors to achieve the higher level of productivity in safest manner possible. o Works in cooperation with technical resources on safety repairs and corrective actions. • Assists and serves as backup to Environmental, Health & Wellbeing programs. • Monitors enforcement on the floor for safety plans and procedures. o Conducts routine audits and inspections and ensures others are complying. o Work in coordination with on- site safety coordinators, supervisors and management to perform process and equipment audits. o Lead identification of root cause / corrective action for incidents or accidents o Track Open Shop Floor Safety items identified during audits or safety committee meetings o Monitors environmental and safety program issues that crossover, e.g. chemical handling, spill, and storage processes. • Conducts risk assessments through job hazard analysis (JSA’s). • Benchmark and network with external resources to stay in tune with new solutions that will continually improve safety performance and culture. • Participates in meetings to enhance safety and health initiatives; promotes and cascades communicates accordingly. This person will occasionally be seated long periods of time during road and air travel. Work Environment - The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts and occasionally exposed to fumes, airborne particles or outside weather conditions. The noise level in the office work environment is usually quiet, however PPE is required for the usually loud plant environment.
