Tool Designer Shelbyville, Kentucky Seeking a CAD designer for our corporate tool design group. Ideal candidates will have experience in manufacturing and tool room environments and strong CAD skills. Qualifications Include: • HS diploma or equivalent with technical training or certificate • 5 years related experience in tooling, design AutoCAD, CATIA, Inventor, and CAM software(Journeyman card or certified Apprentice program) • Knowledge of Spreadsheet software, Word Processing and Manufacturing software • Proficient with AutoCAD, CATIA, Inventor, and CAM software, and Microsoft Office products • US Person (meets ITAR/EAR requirements) Also Preferred: • Associate’s Degree or Bachelor’s degree, preferably Engineering/ Technical • Experience with Meridian Software • Experience with roll/tooling Copra roll design software and CNC programming ________________________________________ JOB DESCRIPTION – Tool Designer (see attached for detailed description) Summary: Conceives and designs machinery and equipment, tools, dies, gauges, jigs, fixtures and machine attachments required for manufacturing industrial products. Uses current CAD/CAE technologies and completes detail designs for toolmakers. Ensures design functions properly in production. Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned. • Studies specifications and confers with Engineering, shop personnel and vendors to resolve design problems related to material characteristics, methods, dimensional tolerances, service requirements, manufacturing procedures and costs of tools. • Selects standard items such as bushings and other components for incorporation into tool design. Designs/models preliminary sketches and prepares layout, BOM, and detailed drawings to schedule. • Improves tool designs according to trial or production service data to improve tool life and/or performance. • Stays up to date with latest technologies for design and tooling selection. Makes use of knowledge by suggesting/testing new methods for design and build of tooling. • Obtains specifications of production machinery and equipment to be used for various processes. • Informs tool tryout personnel of design concept, reviews with necessary personnel and comes to consensus on any process issues. Communicates setup information in documented manner to tryout and production personnel. • Documents design and design changes in accordance to company policies. • Discusses with toolmakers and/or Supervisor of Tool Room any tools designed or to be designed with the purpose of improving workability of tool using his design knowledge and helping tryout. • Works with tryout and/or production personnel during the tryout or troubleshooting of tooling. • Works safely and maintains a clean work area.
