Job Description Position: Service Technician Level 5 Department: Product Support Reports to: Service Manager Date effective: 10/19/96 Last Reviewed: 4/01/2021 Primary Function: Perform service work as required to repair or maintain customer equipment and systems. Ensure customer satisfaction by providing problem solving expertise. Respond to and troubleshoot customer inquiries, questions, and complaints regarding manufactured or distributed product by phone or direct contact. Work with company resources to obtain information required to diagnose and solve customer problems. Provide leadership to other service department team members. Essential Functions: Perform service work in shop or field, using hand and power tools, forklifts and other lifting equipment, welding and torching operations to disassemble and reassemble parts and components as required to repair or maintain equipment and systems. Perform equipment delivery inspections, start-ups, service inspections, trade-in inspections and customer operations training. Perform new, used and rental equipment installations. Estimate and direct small fabrication projects. Design, recommend and install modifications to existing plant structure and/or flow. Supervise direct reports and delegate responsibilities as directed by management. Train other employees in safety, technical product knowledge, and other skills development as assigned by management. Meet scheduled production deadlines as directed by Supervision. Maintain tool and equipment purchases and maintenance as directed by management. Prepare, issue and maintain service report and related work files and correspondence as necessary to conduct department and company business in an orderly, efficient and professional manner. Adhere to established policies and procedures. Complete reports and other required paperwork accurately and in a timely manner. Assist in administering and enforcing corporate safety policies. Attend assigned schools, meetings and conventions Must be able to lift a minimum of 75 pounds. Must be able to withstand working in changing weather conditions. Must be able to bend, stoop, kneel, push, pull, walk, climb and reach overhead to accommodate positions to repair equipment. Other functions: Participate with Manger to assist in maintenance of department process. Promote PMI goodwill via participation in industry associations, conventions, meetings and displays as directed. Administrative tasks as assigned by management. And other responsibilities as assigned by management. Qualifications: Education/Training: High School diploma or equivalent with focus in mechanical and industrial training or engineering. Must be able to read, interpret & understand technical drawings. Prefer 2 year or more technical degree Experience: Minimum five (5) years successful service experience in aggregate, heavy equipment, material handling, coal or related industry. Minimum two (2) years successful structural steel fabrication and erection experience. Background in and /or other experience or knowledge of machining methods and repairs. Skills/Abilities/Aptitude: Personality to interact with customers in a positive manner. Strong math and mechanical aptitude. Strong communications skills. People oriented with a high degree of patience, sense of urgency and diplomacy. Highly developed organizational skills. Team oriented attitude. Strong personal presence. Working knowledge of PC computers. Quick learner. MIG, Stick welding skills, in and out of position. Heavy equipment operation. Ability to read engineering drawings. Take and record field measurements according to generally accepted engineering/drafting principles. Good housekeeping skills. Stress: Tolerance for stress - meeting deadlines Faced paced work: Sense of determination and resolve Deadlines: Ability to regulate, prioritize, judge and delegate responsibility to meet tight deadlines. Interaction with people: Must have excellent communication skills, ability to empathize with direct reports. Ability to professionally interact with employees, customers and vendors at all levels.
